Examples of Application

  • Sheeters are used to sheet a wide range of masa consistency and products.
  • Capacities range from 400 to 3000 pounds per hour.

Just a few of the Ultra-Flow design sheeting heads for tortilla chips are shown in the pictures above.

Units for processing corn tortillas and corn based products are available.

Features and Benefits

  • Stainless Steel construction throughout product zones on all machines.
  • SuperTuff rollers are standard on tortilla chip sheeting heads. These rollers provide excellent weight control, reduce wire breakage and provide extended roller life.
  • The system is offered with two drive configurations. Single and dual drive deferential speed.
  • Adjustable height product take-away conveyor with pneumatic lifts to provide greater flexibility.
  • Heavy-duty rollers and bearings provide capabilities to sheet corn four and fresh ground masa.
  • Heavy duty UHMW cutting molds are offered for many tortilla chip shapes and configurations.
  • Adjustable height support frame with locking casters is provided for accurate positioning.
  • Pneumatic wire adjusters wit

Little known facts about our sheeting heads and the technology.

The Ultra-Flow sheeting head design and engineering was done by FOODesign’s president Joseph Mistretta originally in 1991.

The design was the first of its kind to use differential speed.  Mistretta was convinced that differential speed would make sheeting heads more accurate in product weight

and would allow processors to run lines faster and more efficiently and would ultimately eliminate rear wires on all sheeting heads used for tortilla chips and tortillas.

The first design was exhibited at SNAXPO in San Antonio, Texas where it was viewed as one of the most innovative designs to come along in many years.

Sheeting head patent awarded to Mistretta in 1993.

The differential speed design developed by Mistretta has been adopted by most food equipment manufacturers and has now become the standard in sheeting technology.
